Stephen E. Higgins, M.D.
Stephen E. Higgins, M.D. is a fellowship trained ophthalmic surgeon specializing in cataract surgery, refractive / laser corrective surgery, and corneal / external diseases. He is the first surgeon in Kalamazoo to perform laser assisted cataract surgery and has extensive experience in the use of specialty intraocular lens implants to correct presbyopia and astigmatism. He has performed several thousand laser vision correction procedures for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Dr. Higgins performed his undergraduate studies and received his medical degree from the University of Michigan in 1985. He completed internship at William Beaumont hospital, Ophthalmology Residency at Wills Eye Hospital, and subspecialty Fellowship training in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at the University of Iowa. He has been in private practice since 1990. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Midwest Cornea Society, International Society of Refractive Surgery, the Michigan State Medical Society and the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine.
